UNDONE Basecamp Kyoto Ghost Bronze
The UNDONE Basecamp Kyoto Ghost Bronze is a great, functional tool watch. Through the display caseback you can see the reliable Japanese Seiko II NH35 movement ticking away. The most obvious perk of the watch is the material: it's entirely made from solid bronze. Bronze has the great attribute that it builds up a layer of patina. This is an ongoing process which makes every watch unique. Discolouration is normal with this material. One major benefit is that you can largely bring back your watch in the original condition by using a Cape Cod cloth.
Alongside the material, the Basecamp also features 100m water resistance and the domed glass is made from LEXAN Polycarbonate and a bidirectional bezel.
The watch features an amazing oriental reinterpretation of the Classic California Dial where the iconic top-half Roman numeral layout of the California Dial’s wartime necessitated design (Eligibility for sailors/divers) is replaced with four delicate grains of Kanji (「無」,「常」,「苦」,「空」), the Kyoto Ghost is a modest nod to the Buddhist teachings on the three marks of existence (三宝 sanbōin): impermanence (無常 MUJO), suffering (苦 ku) and absence of self-nature (空 kū).
Complemented by UNDONE’s first ever Bronze case and genuine vintage leather straps, the Kyoto Ghost is an ideal option for those who prefer a more subtle and rustic look.
